IASTM... Why would I want to do that?

IASTM

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) can be very effective for treating soft tissue injuries and conditions. It targets scar tissue and fascial restrictions to help increase range of motion, increase blood flow, decrease pain, and promote faster healing with the goal being to transform your soft tissue injury into healthy functioning tissue.

How does it help?

  • Breaks up scar tissue

  • Increase blood flow

  • Increases range of motion

  • Decrease pain and stiffness

  • Increase body function and balance

  • Helps with tissue healing and repair

Why is scar tissue bad and what causes it?

Scar tissue restricts range of motion and can cause pain with functional limitations. Many different injuries and repetitive stresses can cause excess scar tissue.

How fast does it work?

Every condition is different so this can vary form patient to patient. Most patients feel a major difference within a few treatments.

Does it hurt?

We always treat to a person’s tolerance. If the treatment ever gets too uncomfortable we reduce the amount of pressure to the skin. The skin can become red and look irritated and sometimes bruising, which will usually subside within 12-24 hours. The redness is due to small micro traumas, which help to draw new blood and nutrients to the area to promote faster healing.
